Program Description
The Vascular Surgery Residency Training Program at the University of Calgary is a program accredited by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. The training program is 2 years in duration. Upon completion of the program, candidates are eligible for examination in the specialty of Vascular Surgery. We accept residents who have completed residency training in General Surgery or Cardiac Surgery.
The Division of Vascular Surgery at the University of Calgary has one of the highest volumes of endovascular procedures in Canada. We offer experience in both complicated and hybrid open-endovascular surgery. In addition to an emphasis on minimal-access surgery, we maintain a strong base in all aspects of open vascular surgery. The Division of Vascular Surgery is based in a single centre, and serves all of southern Alberta and portions of British Columbia and Saskatchewan (approximately 2.5 million people). This ensures a large volume of cases for the trainees. There is collaboration with cardiac surgery and oncologic surgery for interesting and challenging cases. The attending surgeons have a wide variety of backgrounds, interests and expertise that will broaden the experience of the trainee.
