Program Outline
The five year orthopaedic program at the University of Calgary is designed to provide broad-based clinical training in the PGY-1 year as well as to enable the trainee to meet the objectives of core training in surgery within the first two years of the program.

This is the first year of a five year program leading to eventual preparation for Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada certification.  The first year includes paediatric orthopaedics, emergency medicine, plastic surgery, general surgery, internal medicine, vascular surgery and core orthopaedics.

There are no mandatory rural rotations.  We do nothave support for residents to take mandatory rural rotations, although they would be paid their usual wage if they did decide to take an elective in arural setting.
