Biography
About me
I grew up in Vancouver, BC and completed my undergraduate degree in neuroscience at the University of Calgary. I am now completing an MD/PhD in medical science in the department of psychiatry.
My research
I am co-supervised by Dr. Alexander McGirr and Dr. Signe Bray.
My research examines factors which modify neuropsychological markers of risk for suicidal thoughts and behaviors. This involves measuring performance on computerized cognitive tests that measure things like decision making, cognitive control, and implicit associations with death, markers which are associated suicidal behaviors. Specifically, my research examines how performance on these tests change following a social stress paradigm and a novel non-invasive brain stimulation treatment for suicidal thoughts and behaviors. Changing performance on these neuropsychological tests may be indicative of changing overall risk of suicidality. Findings may improve understanding of neuropsychological risk for suicide and aid in the development of novel suicide prevention strategies.
BRAIN CREATE program aspirations
Through the BRAIN CREATE program, I hope to improve my exposure to research in both academic and industry settings.
Commercialization
I hope to help improve understanding of suicidal behaviors and work to develop novel suicide prevention strategies. Commercialization is one avenue through which research for suicide prevention strategies and treatments for suicidal behaviors may be brought into clinical practice.
