Biography

About me
My name is Aimee and I’m from Halifax, Nova Scotia. This lab and their research brought me to Calgary since there was more Alzheimer’s research being done here than there was in Halifax at the time that I completed my undergraduate degree. As an undergrad, I attended Saint Mary’s University and studied Psychology, also completing my honours degree in the program. Currently in Calgary, I am working to complete my Masters in Neuroscience.

My research
I have two supervisors, my primary being Dr. Poulin, as well as Dr. Protzner who’s lab is on main campus. My research in Dr. Poulin’s lab aims to look at the differences in an individuals brain at rest (resting connectivity) through MRI analysis on relatively healthy, older individuals before they start exercising and then after they have completed an exercise intervention. We expect to see an improvement or an increase in their resting connectivity post-exercise. An interesting fact about our lab is that we have the opportunity to go on really cool expeditions to do research on high altitude sleep and how it affects cognition.

BRAIN CREATE program aspirations
Through the BRAIN CREATE program I really would love to go on the expeditions that they are offering to be able to do research for the lab while also being able to explore places that I may not have visited without the program. Travelling has always been a passion of mine which is why moving to Calgary has been a very exciting experience, and adding in the opportunity to do research while travelling is the best of both worlds for me!
