Successful strategies for working with the media

Have you ever wondered how the latest scientific research makes its way onto the front page of a newspaper? Need to organize a funding announcement but don’t know where to start? Do you have a story you think should be featured on the Faculty of Medicine website or in a U of C publication? There are hundreds of stories to tell from the faculty about fascinating research, discoveries and projects. We want to tell those stories.

Why? Because increasing awareness for your research and field of expertise is critical in attracting public support. That in turn leads to government funding, development and resources to further your work and strengthen the faculty’s reputation as a place that top-level academics, doctors, and students want to be.

The media relations office in the faculty of medicine has a firm understanding of print, broadcast and the ever-evolving social media scene. We’ve developed a short introductory communications workshop for faculty, staff and students that is delivered in partnership with external relations on main campus. The session outlines the wide range of support services available, and practical tips for dealing with the mass media.

Upcoming session: Wed. Jan 27/10 12:30 p.m. - 2:00 p.m. - Room G384
